Ground Stuff
Still Photos:
My everyday camera is a Canon 5D MkII. This body has a full frame sensor. I also only use Canon “L” series glass.
The advantages of a full frame sensor are numerous. If you wish to know more see this article.
What is “L” series glass? That is the lens. Just as important as the body. Actually, maybe more important. Canon’s “L” lens series is considered their “Best of the Best”.
More info.
I am able to provide RAW, JPEG or both formats. With or without editing.
Video:
As of today I am using an iPhone 13 Pro exclusively for video. Great specs that rival any dedicated “prosumer” level video camera.
- Pro 12MP camera system: Telephoto, Wide, and Ultra Wide cameras
- Cinematic mode for recording videos with shallow depth of field (1080p at 30 fps)
- HDR video recording with Dolby Vision up to 4K at 60 fps
- 4K video recording at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps
- 1080p HD video recording at 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps
- 720p HD video recording at 30 fps
- ProRes video recording up to 4K at 30 fps (1080p at 30 fps for 128GB storage)*
- Dual optical image stabilization for video (Telephoto and Wide)
- Sensor‑shift optical image stabilization for video (Wide)
- Telephoto: ƒ/2.8 aperture
Wide: ƒ/1.5 aperture
Ultra Wide: ƒ/1.8 aperture and 120° field of view - 3x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out; 6x optical zoom range
Digital zoom up to 15x - Night mode portraits enabled by LiDAR Scanner
- Portrait mode with advanced bokeh and Depth Control
- Dual optical image stabilization (Telephoto and Wide)
- Sensor‑shift optical image stabilization (Wide)
- Apple ProRAW
Audio, Lighting & Misc.:
I have not had any clients actually ask for audio. But I do have a few lavalier microphones with transmitters and recivers. Mostly used for B roll and things for fun.
I do have numerous on-camera and remote lighting options. Diffusers, etc.
One little great gadget I just acquited is a DJI OM 5 gimbal. This offers a top-notch solution for ground video, faux drone shots at ground level and some other creative shots/videos. More info here.
Aerial Stuff
Mavic 2 Pro:
After flying the Phantom series from DJI what can I say about this drone? It changed the game for prosumer operators. Until the recent release of the Mavic 3 this was pretty much “the one” for aerial photographers and videographers. Are there better options for Hollywood? Sure. But this one fits the bill 99% of the time.

DJI FPV:
I have very little flight time with this drone. But I am excited. Why? It is a completely different perspective to video capture. Think Helicopter/Aircraft type aerial imagery. As if you are flying through the scene. While the camera specs are not as strong as the Mavic 2 Pro; they are substantial, and this new perspective is very exciting to me. Hopefully a blog post/review on this once I have more stick time with this drone.
Misc:
ND Filters? Why?
A Neutral-Density Filter, or ND filter, reduces the amount of light that enters a camera’s lens. Under bright sunlight, an ND filter allows photographers more leeway in selecting an aperture and shutter speed by preventing overexposure. I keep both ND and Polarized filters for my drones. Polarized has its place but I rarely use them. ND filters? Almost all the time.
